FCSS has always been a part of my career and near and dear to my heart. I worked for municipal government for over 30 years in various positions. I moved to the Barrhead area in 2021 and started for Barrhead FCSS in May of that year as the Executive Director.
I enjoy travelling, boating, sledding, and other outdoor activities like sitting around the fire. I also love to cook, constantly trying new recipes.
Born and raised in Saskatchewan, my husband and I moved to the Barrhead area in 1990 with our two oldest children. Our younger two children were born here in Barrhead. My husband and I have a mixed farm northwest of Barrhead and have raised our children there.
I have always been a community minded person anywhere I have lived. I love to be involved and get to know different people.
Working at FCSS is very fulfilling for me. It allows me to help people from all walks of life within the community that I have called home for over 30 years. I truly love my job!
Born in Northern Ireland and immigrated to Canada in 1974. Out of high school I joined the army as a Quarter Master. Later I worked through a six-year apprenticeship with Revenue Canada and Canada Tourism. I spent the next 10 years travelling around with Canada Tourism working Expos and Winter Olympics before opening my own business in 1995. In 2002 we moved our company and ourselves to Alberta.
I completed my accounting accreditation in 1984 and have been working in accounting ever since. In 2022 I was presented with the opportunity to work with Barrhead FCSS in their finance department. I will do my best to help them reach their goals and better serve their community. I am proud to call FCSS and the people I work with home.
In my time away from work I enjoy spending time fishing with my husband, playing with my dogs, and gardening.
My name is Vernice Aitken and I am the Community Support Coordinator for Barrhead and District FCSS Society. I have twenty plus years of working in the Human Services Field giving me the ability and skills needed to help people that come into FCSS. Please stop in if you need anything at all and I will be more than happy to speak with you and help you in any way I can. If I can’t help I will find you someone who can.
I was born and raised on a farm near Fort Assiniboine, Alberta. After moving away for a period of time, my husband and I returned to Fort Assiniboine to raise our daughter. In my free time I like to read, garden, and camp.
I am the newest member of the staff here at FCSS and Loving it! Outside of work, I am a mom to four little boys, one weenie-dog, and a cat! Our house gets chaotic and crazy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! I enjoy all things outdoors from gardening to lawn hockey with the kids! My family are all huge campers, so I love being at the lake or in the mountains. Spending time with my family is so important to me and being with my husband and boys always makes my day so much brighter.
I currently work in numerous departments here at FCSS including the Family Resource network, Client Support, and the Food Bank. I started out my journey with FCSS as their practicum student for my social work diploma back in November. It did not take long for me to fall in love with FCSS and what we do here! FCSS subjected me to a broader spectrum of social work that I had not previously considered, and it was through them, their mandate, and their mission where I found my true calling. Apart form that, the staff her have made me feel so welcomed and at home with them. Everything about FCSS has my heart.
